The Grenada Sports Centre, located at the southern part of the island, stands as a testament to sustainable and community-oriented architecture. The design of this low-energy building maximizes the use of a 17,000 sq. ft. plot of land, adhering to all local building codes and regulations.
At the entrance of the Sports Centre, a small cafe invites patrons, strategically placed to attract foot traffic. From the cafe and entrance foyer, visitors have access to various facilities on the ground floor. This includes a 4-lane, 25-meter swimming pool, changing rooms, shower areas, a laundromat, medic room, computer biometrics room, storage spaces, and mechanical rooms. The thoughtful arrangement of spaces ensures that the Sports Centre caters to a diverse range of community needs.
The first floor is dedicated to versatile activities such as dance, martial arts, music, and squash, providing spaces for both physical and cultural pursuits. The second floor houses a large gym and a physiotherapy clinic, promoting holistic well-being for the community.
The design doesn't just prioritize functionality but also addresses environmental considerations. Artistic sun shading elements adorn the southern and western facades, forming a second skin over large window openings. These elements serve a dual purpose – preventing overheating of interior spaces and providing privacy. This sustainable feature not only enhances the building's energy efficiency but also adds an artistic touch to the facade. The Grenada Sports Centre stands as a welcoming and inclusive space for the Grenadian community to engage in various activities, promoting both physical and cultural well-being.
